Piper’s Promise Foundation is a nonprofit organization honoring a courageous, beautiful and joyful nine-year-old girl who braved two bone marrow transplants with grace and always a smile on her face. She passed away July 24, 2022, leaving behind an unmatched and inspiring legacy. Piper was full of love, selflessness and compassion, touching the hearts of everyone she ever met. While undergoing her transplants, Piper saw other patients, other children, going through the same process whose family wasn’t able to be with them due to work and financial hardships, and she wanted to help them all. So together, with Piper, our family decided to start a foundation that will raise funds for families going through transplants and long hospital stays, so children can always have a companion with them through those difficult and challenging times. We also plan to bring awareness to the challenges patients face when going through life threatening and life altering medical diagnoses and treatment. Piper brought out the best in everyone she knew, and we hope that her memory and strength will shine through our foundation and honor our incredible, courageous, loving and one of a kind transplant warrior.
Piper always put others before herself, and even at only nine years old, she made an immense impact in this world. She never met a stranger, ran fierce like a cheetah, danced like no one was watching and shined brighter than the sun. To know her, was an honor, and all who did, loved and admired her.
Even with everything that was thrown her way, she was always genuine and kind, handled every tribulation with grace and filled our lives with endless joy. We will keep her promise to help other children and families who have walked in her shoes. We were inspired by her tenacity and determination, and we will follow her lead by bringing hope and encouragement to all we can.
This year, we are hosting our 1st Annual Keeping Our Promise Benefit, to raise funds and bring hope and financial assistance to families like ours, who spend months in the hospital supporting their own warriors. Like the Schmiedl family did, the majority of parents must take extended unpaid leaves from work or lose their jobs because of the length of time transplants and treatments for life-threatening illnesses require. There is no place a parent, guardian or family want to be more than at the side of their child through the good times and the hard times. Please follow our page as we strive to bring relief to our inpatient community.
